Overview of class: This survey of British literature ranges from Beowulf to C. S. Lewis and will include study of the play, poetry, fiction, and non-fiction writing. Each reading will be examined in the context of the author’s life, the writing’s historical context, and the importance of the work for us today. Students will learn to analyze and respond to the literature through essay writing, dramatic readings, and creative projects. Several outside-of-class field trips and meetings will be offered as optional enrichment opportunities for students who wish to explore the literary world of Britain in more depth.

 

Prerequisites for this class: a willing heart and an open mind
