Overview of class: The Rutherford Tutorial Academy Drama Class will introduce students to various facets of theater: including acting, stagecraft, makeup, scenery, dance, costumes, technical aspects of the stage and directing. This course will focus on the stage, acting, vocal projection/and singing, dancing/movement, musical theater, drama, and improvisation in depth. However, performance is the main focus of this course.
This course is designed for the serious student who has displayed abilities and commitment in theater AND for those who are merely curious about the stage with no experience! Students will learn to take on leadership roles and to direct a one act play or project as well as work in an ensemble and on crew. Students will learn to work through inhibitions such as stage-fright.
This group will perform at least twice (once in the Winter and once in the Spring) with possible community performances. The opportunities are endless!!! Ultimately my goal is that my students experience a love for the stage and work through any insecurities they may posses. My desire is that every single student develops a passion for performing in front of an audience on the 'big stage!'
Prerequisites for this class: Auditions will only be required for project placement. Typically each student will be asked to perform a one minute monologue or give a description of a memorable event that has occurred in their life.
