Overview of class:
Class will be a study of Latin grammar and vocabulary including translations concerning Roman culture and mythology. Those students who wish to later study other foreign languages will find that the grammar concepts learned in Latin are transferable to other languages. Latin mottoes and expressions that have been incorporated into English will also be learned.
Prerequisites for this class: An understanding of English grammar including tense of verbs and parts of speech. An awareness that this study requires much memorization.

Average study time for this class will be approximately 3-4 hours per week.
Tutor Expectations for Parents:
Weekly vocabulary: Check each word on student’s flashcards for spelling accuracy before you sign. Give your student a practice quiz at home on these words.
Homework assignments: Read the week’s new chapter together. Read instructions for assignments with the student to be certain he/she understands what is required. Examine your student’s completed assignments and compare against the syllabus before he/she brings them to class. Have your student rewrite messy assignments. Be aware of your student’s progress by examining returned assignments. Seek out a tutor if grades indicate a need for extra help.
Tests: Oversee the taking of unit tests that will be sent home.
