Prerequisites for this class: Must have taken Algebra 1 or is taking Algebra 1at the same time Physical Science is taken.

Overview of class:

This overview of chemistry, physics and earth science is designed to be the last course a student takes before biology.
The 16 Modules cover basic matter and unit conversions, air, the atmosphere, water, the hydrosphere, earth and lithosphere, factors affecting weather, predicting weather, physics of motion, Newton’s laws, gravity and circular motion, electricity and magnetism, radiation and atomic structure, light and sound, and astrophysics, including the age of the universe.
Over 30 laboratory experiments from the book will be done in class with only a few exceptions.
Students will learn to write ‘lab reports’ that will be turned in and graded.
One quiz per Module will be given in class (every other week) covering homework assigned.
Students may correct any test or quiz during the semester for half credit.
Lab Reports are an ‘all or nothing’ grade. If needed, students may correct them for full credit.

Class is recommended for students: 8^th grade or higher

Estimated difficulty level of course for average student: Above average

Average study time for this course will be approximately: 5 hours per week

Assignment before first day of class: Read Module #1 and answer the Study Guide Questions at the end of the module. Read through the experiments in Module #1 – we will perform experiments in class. Be ready to discuss and answer questions about the module.

*Parent’s responsibilities: to oversee the writing of lab reports, test taking, and to grade each study guide and module summary.

* Tutor’s responsibilities: to grade all tests, quizzes and lab reports.
