The first four books above should be read during the summer. The Good Earth should be read during Christmas Break. All other printed material will be provided by instructor. Teacher communicates with students and parents throughout the year via email, making it necessary for students to have access to a computer with email capabilities.

With this tuition rate, I must have a minimum of 5 and maximum of 10 students.
Overview of class: This class will take a cultural approach to world literature by focusing on different regions of the world and doing a chronological survey of the great masterpieces and authors that came from them. There will also be a Latin root-based vocabulary study and writing assignments. We will study literary terminology, historical and cultural information and famous quotations from works that we read.
Prerequisites for this class: None, but a student’s access to a computer with email capabilities is necessary for mid-week communications, including turning in drafts of writing assignments.

Average study time for this class will be approximately 5-6 hours per week.
Tutor Expectations for Parents: Students will be given a detailed syllabus with daily assignments. Parents will make sure students are doing these daily assignments by asking about them regularly and engaging them in conversation about their reading and writing. Parents will supervise testing.
Additional comments:
Our goal is to give students a broad general knowledge of literature that will allow them to recognize literary allusions and quotations and references to authors. I also hope to prepare them sufficiently for writing college essays.
