With this tuition rate, I must have a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 12 students.

 

Overview of class:

This course is designed to seek out and encourage the creative writer in you!  Each student has a voice and a story to tell.  Students will be introduced to a variety of creative writing techniques; elements of fiction, character development, plot and structure, point of view and dialogue, setting and perspective, genre fiction, creative nonfiction, news, editorial and feature writing, screenplay adaptations, and more!  Students will learn how to get their own work published by becoming actively involved in the production of RTA’s creative arts magazine – Random Thoughts Aloud.  Students will submit their own work and learn how to review and edit the work of other students.  Guest speakers will visit our class and share their expertise in a variety of fields utilizing creative writing (fiction, newspaper, television, stage and script writing).  Students will learn how to submit their work for consideration to several national literary magazines that feature teen authors.

 

Prerequisites for this class:  Basic writing and grammar skills, a desire to write creatively.  Student must be willing to submit their work for peer review and publication.  Students must have access to the Internet for weekly communication with tutor via e-mail.

Writing assignments vary week to week; suggested writing time is 30-45 min per day.

 

Tutor Expectations of Parents:

·         Ensure student follows class syllabus and completes all writing assignments in a timely manner.

·         Encourage student to take ownership of assignments and form working relationship with tutor.
