Overview of class:  This class offers students an opportunity to gain all of the benefits that come with a mastery of drumming and rhythms.  Drumming enhances a wide variety of skills from concentration to math skills to physical coordination and more.  The group setting helps develop listening skills, cooperation and teamwork.  Meanwhile the students are jamming out and having FUN!

We will learn basic rhythm notation, working on more complicated rhythms with the advanced students, to be used for in-class communication and composition.  From there the class operates as a band class - developing and rehearsing songs for performance.

Returning students as well as new students will be combined for classes.  We will not repeat the same material as last year.  There will be some overview of basic rhythm notation which will serve as review for returning students who need it, and advanced studies will be provided for students who do not.  Meanwhile, all students will participate in group drumming & composition which meets the interests of students of all levels at once.

Instruments will be provided.  In 2008-’09, we will use some stomp-type instruments including aluminum trash cans and broomsticks.
