Primary Text:  High School Financial Planning Program – The text will be provided by the instructor.

Publisher:  This is a new program, offered by the State of TN and developed in cooperation with the National Endowment for Financial Education.  This curriculum does meet state and national standards.

 

Other:  Instructor may supplement with a variety of materials.

Recommended, but not required:  Savings and/or checking account for the student

Class Overview:

This course is for one semester and will meet state standards for the new ½ credit graduation requirement. This course will cover topics such as financial planning; budgeting; saving and investing; understanding the various aspects of credit and insurance; and analysis of employer benefit packages as well as payroll deductions.  When available, guest speakers will discuss some of the above areas.

 

Course Objectives:

  1. To educate students about sound money management skills and the financial planning process.
  2. To help teens begin to develop positive behaviors which are necessary to attaining financial maturity and achieving a secure future.

 

Pre-requisites:

This class is recommended for students in the 8th grade or higher.
