Overview of class:
This course is designed to seek out and encourage the creative writer in you! Each student has a voice and a story to tell. Students will be introduced to a variety of creative writing techniques; character development, fables and myths, monologue and dialogue, setting and perspective, genre fiction, creative nonfiction, news, editorial and feature writing, screenplay adaptations, plays and more! Students will also be introduced to several styles of poetry and eventually create their own! Students will learn how to get their own work published, eventually submitting pieces for a new section that will be debuting next year in MTHEA’s publication, Jonathan’s Arrow, featuring works written by home school students. Items will also be submitted for consideration to several national literary magazines that feature teen authors.

Additional comments: In addition to the main texts noted above, I will be utilizing several additional resources to teach this class. Rather than weigh students (and parents) down with more textbooks, students will be provided with handouts or copies from any additional resources, along with any writing prompts and assignments. If there are copy fees incurred that exceed the amount previously stated, parents will be informed well in advance.
