Rutherford Tutorial  Academy

Dear Prospective Students and Parents:

Thank you for your interest in our tutorial program.  We are approaching our tenth year of operation and we are very excited about our schedule of class offerings and tutor additions.  We have been blessed with an amazingly diverse yet united group of students and families participating and volunteering in our program, without which we could not function so smoothly.  Our tutors, as well, help to build the foundation for this endeavor as they share their expertise in their class teachings.  We are grateful to have tutors committed so strongly to these students to give us yet another year of their hearts, their time and their energies.  As a result from the overwhelming interest and participation from families all over the Middle Tennessee area, we are able to have much diversity in our class schedule, and hope that you all are able to realize the vast knowledge to be gained from our tutors in these classes, be it for a necessary credit, spiritual enhancement, skill and/or character development, or sheer enjoyment.

We would like you to take the time to carefully read the contents of this website.  The Home page has basic information about Who We Are.  The links at the left will give you all the information regarding our tutor, parent, and student commitments, as well as explain to you the format of the tutorial approach.  A Course Outline for each individual course is linked off of the class schedule and also on the pages under “Course Descriptions”.

The tutorial approach is not to be mistaken as a school substitute.  This program does not work for all, and it is important to us to make sure that this will be of benefit to your child, and, at the same time, allow us to adhere to the standards set for everyone’s benefit.  We desire students who exhibit strength in self-discipline as well as display a high respect for authority.  This approach is meant mainly for the college-bound and entrepreneurial student who is an independent self-starter.  Students with a diagnosed learning disability may have great difficulty with this program.   We want parents who are willing to have a necessary level of involvement in overseeing class assignments.  Diligence in this area is important for the student to have success in this program.  It is also our desire for the student to be able to personally make a commitment to this program and hold a spirit of inclusiveness and a willingness to cooperate.  As the transition from the traditional school system to the independent study format is difficult for most, prior home schooling experience for at least one year is strongly urged before applying.

After reading through all of the information, should you decide you would like to be a part of this program, and if you, the student, feel that you can contribute to our program and your education by your respect, faithfulness and dedication in the courses you choose, then we would invite you to print, fill out, and return the application and forms, listed at the side under “Registration”, “All Students” and “Prospective Students”, to the address below.   After receipt of your application, honor code, liability release, family contract, and parental involvement forms, along with your class request form and the two recommendation forms, we will contact you to set up a time for us to meet and have a formal interview with at least one parent and the student(s).  As our church meeting space is limited, our student body number is also limited.  This interview is an important part of our student body selection process, and we graciously ask that you do not bring younger siblings so that we may benefit fully from each other's time.

The application, and all other items specified on the registration checklist should be mailed to Diane Cothern, 2307 Riverview Dr, Murfreesboro, TN  37129.  Any questions may be directed to rta4u@yahoo.com.  Applications received by March 1st will receive first priority.

Blessings to you all in your efforts to educate your children in a manner enabling them to find their place in His purpose.
