COMMITMENTS FROM PARENTS:

Your student cannot succeed in this program without a major commitment of time and effort from both parents.  This program does not work like a school.  YOU are the teacher.  You are enlisting the help of a tutor.  You must commit to work with the requirements laid out by each individual tutor, and you must work with this tutor in order for your child to learn what is needed to earn the credit.   Should a problem evolve, work with the tutor to resolve it.

Ø  Read each course outline and 32 week syllabus carefully.  You will receive your syllabi at orientation.  Pay special attention to the Parental Expectation's (purple sheet).  In most cases there may be summer assignments, so please be aware.

Ø  Attend Orientation.  It is MANDATORY!  The date is on the calendar.

Ø  Make sure your students go to class the first day with all texts.  If you fail to acquire texts in time, find someone who has the text who will let you copy the part you need.  STUDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE TEXTS WILL NOT BE OFFERED GRACE FOR LATE ASSIGNMENTS.

Ø  Check assignment sheets every Tuesday to be certain that students have all materials needed for the next week’s work and plan the week out as given in the syllabi.  Check also for the testing schedule for each class.  Parents are expected to administer tests according to the          directions provided by tutors.

Ø  Make sure assignments are completed by each Monday.  This is very important.  Zeros will be given for work not turned in on time.  It is very discouraging for a tutor to do this knowing that it could be prevented by an attentive parent.  Your student's success is highly dependent on your continued involvement.  If your child is having trouble with the class, seek outside tutoring so the student does not get behind.  One struggling student makes class time more difficult for the tutor.  If poor work or late work becomes an issue, your child will be put on academic probation which may result in dismissal without refund of tuition.

Ø  If there seems to be a problem between your student and a tutor, contact the tutor, being sensitive to both sides of the issue.  Most problems are resolved by talking.  If not, contact one of the board members  for mediation.  We will all meet face to face to help resolve the issue.

Ø  If a tutor does not seem to be fulfilling the commitments outlined in our program, please ask them to explain.  If the issue remains, please let one of the board members know.

Ø  Although it is highly encouraged to keep communications open with the tutors, please communicate with the tutors and board members in the least obtrusive way.  Be considerate with your phone calls.  If possible, use e-mail.  Otherwise, keep phone calls limited to weekdays - no evenings, no weekends unless absolutely necessary and/or with tutor permission.  Remember that they have family lives too.

Ø  Keep track of the weekly job assignments for your family.  We make attempts to call and remind you, but are not always successful.  This tutorial is a joint effort – we cannot do it without everyone’s commitment.

Ø  Please let us know if your child will be missing class(es).  RTA phone # is supplied at Orientation and is in the Directory.  We will pass this information on to the tutor, but you or your child will need to contact the tutor to make sure everything is on track with the syllabi.

Ø  DO NOT misuse or give out information from our directory.  Use for RTA purposes only.

Ø  Extra tutoring may be necessary for some classes.  Subjects such as math, foreign language, and upper level sciences require extra (weekly) tutoring for most students.  We recommend that parents recognize this from the start, and prepare accordingly.

Ø  Encourage our tutors.  Pray for them.  Pray for the students and families in our group.  Visit classes.  Come to lunch.  Please make appointments if you want to be certain of time alone with a tutor.
