American Sign Language (ASL)

Tutor – Ashley Sebestyen

Course Description

Throughout this course, students will learn basic vocabulary, phrases, and grammar
structure of American Sign Language (ASL). We will utilize group practice, games, presentations, quizzes, and tests to enhance learning. Students will also learn about Deaf culture and the deaf community through in-class discussions and assigned handouts/readings. During some classes, we will have short periods where we “turn our voices off” in order to fully immerse into the language. Upon completion of this class, students will be able to communicate with a deaf/hard of hearing person, hold basic conversations using sign language, and have a basic knowledge of Deaf culture.
