Course Description

Ever feel like College and the systems around “adulting” are another language? Suddenly people are using acronyms like CPOS, FAFSA, UD, ELLD, OOPM and you didn’t sign up for another language, you are just trying to graduate high school! College and Career Prep will serve as your “translator” as you navigate the world of adulting after high school. I hope to equip you with the skills to navigate graduation, college, and career and all the systems that go along with that.

College and Career Preparation exists to prepare students for graduation, college, and career and all the systems that go along with that. We will cover the following topics:

  1. Professionalism in Communication
  2. Identifying your transferable skills
  3. Outcomes-based collegiate or career planning
  4. Building critical and integrative thinking into future planning
  5. The College process from Admission to Graduation
  6. Personality Assessments
  7. Analysis of Future Career Options

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify and describe themselves and their unique gifts, talents, and abilities.
  • Utilize both traditional (face to face or verbal) and technology-based methods when
    researching different avenues for their future.
  • Have a basic knowledge of the collegiate system and how it operates.
  • Understand how they learn best and environments that are conducive to their
    success.
  • Employ appropriate tools and techniques to craft emails, and all other professional
    communication.
  • Define and document career options and majors that would be a good fit given their
    gifts, talents, and abilities.
  • Describe what they desire in their collegiate or career experience.
